ProShow Gold from Photodex Corporation provides one of the largest feature sets around and almost every conceivable publishing and sharing capability. Although this product is one of the better available, its non-intuitive, hard-to-use interface and lack of finesse kept it from ranking higher.
ProShow Gold has come a long way in recent versions. They‘ve packed almost all the features we were looking for into the program. However, it seems they’ve done this at the expense of making the product easy to use for most individuals. It will take some time getting used to how to do certain things before polished results can be achieved.
The design features are where ProShow Gold shines. With the exception of Magix Xtreme PhotoStory, this software package has more features than any other product we reviewed. We loved the ability to import music directly from a CD with a single click. The other thing we really liked was the ability to apply preset templates to your slides. There are about 35 different slides styles and most of them are animated. ProShow also boasts the largest number of slide transitions, however the quality of the transitions is somewhat lacking. Most of them are variations on simple 2D swipes. There are no 3D transitions that we could find.
You can also record your own voice for use in the slideshow, apply multiple soundtracks and sync your slideshow to your music. The included photo editor is very primitive. You can adjust brightness/contrast, hue, rotation and there is a simple red-eye removal and crop tools.
